We asked Andrew Homan, VP of Digital Product at Ficanex, to share some of his experiences working at the company and why he is passionate about the tech industry. Continue reading to see Andrew's full interview.
- Q: What do you do at Ficanex?
A: I lead Product for Ficanex Technology, helping financial institutions accelerate innovation and thrive in the digital era. Products include tunl., our open banking marketplace and tunl.chat, a chatbot built for financial institutions. - Q: What does your day-to-day at Ficanex typically look like?
A: A lot of collaboration. Working with our technology partners Finconecta and Ada to enhance our product offering, fostering strategic partnerships with fintechs all around the globe, or with our clients in a highly consultative sales process. Our team is small but mighty, and our products are complex, so a lot of time is spent on solving for unmet client needs, which involves a good mix of research and analysis, as well as brainstorming and (mostly virtual) whiteboarding sessions. - Q: What is your favourite part about working at Ficanex?
A: I'll cheat and provide two favourites: 1) Empowerment - being small, everyone has an opportunity (and is encouraged) to add value wherever and however they can. No one sticks to their lane. 2) People - we don't take ourselves too seriously. No egos or politics. - Q: What is your favourite memory at Ficanex so far?
A: Meeting much of the team for the first time and hanging out in person as the world has started to open up. I love the convenience of virtual, but nothing beats in person for building great relationships. - Q: How did you become interested in the tech industry?
A: I started coding websites for fun back in high school in the mid-90's... mostly about sports and music. To be honest, I didn't see it as a career at the time, but it ended up being my "in" to the financial world and I just went with it. I'm a very "go with the flow" kind of guy, but very passionate about the power of tech to improve peoples lives. - Q: What is something most people don't know about you?
A: I can touch my nose with my tongue.
